Small Moves NYC

Small Moves in NYC, a Smaller Crew and a Price Quoted From Photos.

Triborough Trucking handles small moves: a studio, a one-bedroom, or a few large pieces going from one place to another. A smaller job gets a smaller crew, and you deal with Paul, the owner, from the first photo to the last piece set down.

We quote a small move for what it is. If your whole apartment is moving, read our apartment moving page. This page is for the smaller loads.

What counts

What Counts as a Small Move in NYC

A small move is a studio or one-bedroom, a couple of rooms of furniture, a bed and a sofa going to a new place, or the pieces someone is keeping after a downsize. The truck is not full, so the job turns on access more than on volume: the stairs, the elevator, and how far the carry is to the truck.

Photos tell us which kind it is. Send a few shots of the pieces, the entrance, and the stairs, plus both addresses.

The crew

Two or Three Movers on a Small Job

A full apartment gets three movers plus Paul. A smaller move gets two or three. The crew is sized to the load.

Paul is on the job either way. He calls the day before to confirm, you agree on an arrival time, and he calls about thirty minutes before the crew arrives. The furniture is padded and wrapped where it stands, and anything that has to come apart for a doorway or stair is taken apart and rebuilt by the same crew.

The price

What Sets the Price of a Small Move

  • How many pieces, and how big they are
  • Stairs, an elevator, and the carry to the truck at both ends
  • The distance between the two addresses
  • Heavy items like a piano or a safe

Paul quotes it from photos or a video, or he comes to look. The price quoted is the price you pay, by Zelle, check, or cash.

Small Move or Full Apartment Move: How to Tell Which You Have

A rough test: if everything you are moving would fit in a van with room to spare, it is a small move. If it would fill a truck, or the place has a dining room, a second bedroom of furniture, and closets that are full, it is an apartment move. Plenty of jobs sit in between, and photos settle it faster than a description does.

The category changes the crew and the quote. A studio also gets the same day-before call, the same agreed arrival time, and the same quoted price as a three-bedroom.

Preparation

How to Prepare a Studio or One-Bedroom Before the Crew Arrives

Measure the widest piece against the front door and the elevator or stairwell it has to pass. Empty the drawers you can, because a dresser is lighter and safer to carry without them. Disconnect appliances and let a refrigerator defrost the day before. Put documents, jewelry, medication, and anything irreplaceable in a bag that travels with you.

If your building has a service elevator, reserve it first and tell us the window you were given. Then clear a path from each room to the door so the crew is not stepping around boxes while carrying furniture.

Access

Small Moves in Walk-Ups, Elevator Buildings, and on Crowded Blocks

In New York a small load can be the hardest thing to move, since the building is the obstacle. A fifth-floor walk-up has the same stairs whether you own a studio or a five-room apartment. Elevator buildings and co-ops usually want a certificate of insurance and a reserved elevator window, and we furnish the certificate, naming the building as an additional insured.

Parking is the other piece. If the truck has to stand away from your door, that carry is planned and priced in. Your block's alternate-side rules matter too. Tell us the street and the date.

Before and after

Clearing Out the Extras and Moving Across Town or Out of State

People downsizing often have more than they are keeping. Our junk removal service takes what is staying behind, and usable items are donated. Then the small move carries the rest.

Moves within the city fall under local moving. A small household going out of state still rides alone on Paul's own truck. The NYC to Florida page shows how that works.

Questions

Small Moving FAQs

Do you do small moves in NYC?

Yes. A studio, a one-bedroom, or a handful of large pieces is a small move, and it gets a smaller crew. Two or three people handle a small job, and Paul, the owner, quotes it and works it with them.

How much does a small move cost?

A small move is priced like any other: on how much there is, the stairs or elevator at both ends, how far the carry is to the truck, and the distance between the two addresses. Send photos or a short video and you get a price before the day. The price quoted is the price you pay.

Can you move just a few pieces of furniture?

Yes. Send photos of the pieces, the stairs or elevator, and both addresses, and Paul tells you what the job needs and what it costs before the day.

Do you take furniture apart and put it back together?

Yes. A bed frame or a table that has to come apart to clear a doorway or stair is taken apart and reassembled at the new place by the same crew.

How far ahead do I need to book a small move?

We can usually get to you within four to seven days. Once the job is booked, Paul calls the day before to confirm, and about thirty minutes before the crew arrives.

Can a small load go out of state?

Yes. A small household can ride on Paul's own truck to another state, with only your things on it. See the Florida page for how a long distance move works.
